Ableton 10 Not Responding

broken image

Hi all, I need just a quick fix here! I'm working with Ableton Live 8 on a MacBook Pro purchased new in '09. My interface is a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP. I'm not at all what you would call an experienced recording artist, and to top that off I've been on about a year long hiatus since using this piece of gear, so I'm at a loss as to how to record through this thing via Ableton! First of all, I've viewed the YouTube video put online by Focusrite about setting up Ableton with the interface, and I followed that exactly, but something still isn't right. My mic is plugged into Input 1 of the interface, and I'm getting a signal on the interface itself and in Saffire MixControl, but the audio channel in Ableton is not picking anything up, and when I look at my MacBook sound preferences, Saffire Firewire is highlighted as the input but no signal is being received there either. Also, here is the kicker, I've had the interface working in the past as I've recorded guitar direct into Ableton with it, I just can't remember how I got it to work then.. There has to be a simple solution to this, can somebody please help me out?

Ableton Live 10 Not Responding

  • So I am having an issue trying to record in Ableton. I have MLR AES rewired in to ableton. I have 6 separate tracks for each MLR track. When I arm all the tracks and the record button and play a song it looks like it's recording. WHen I try to play it back though there is no sound though.
I am fairly new to ableton but I can record just fine using press cafe or polygome so I know how to record just fine with other setups. Has anyone else had tis issue?

  • Is the 'audio input' on your tracks in Live set to the correct tracks coming from MLR? The tracks need to be set right to be 'listening' for the audio coming from Max.

  • I believe so. I have the 6 channels set up. Channels 3/4, 5/6, 6,7, 8/9, 10/11, 12/13 are the inputs from max that the MLR tracks are playing through. I can hear everything just fine as well as put effects on the separate tracks no problem.

  • Make sure the monitor buttons on each track in ableton are set to 'in' if they're set to auto, you'll hear it, but not be able to record.

  • Office for mac trial 2016. @Auditory Canvas
Thanks, that was my problem. I didn't realize it had to be on 'auto' to hear the recording. I don't think that is the case with midi recordings. I knew it was something simple like that!

  • Cool, glad you got it working.

  • Ahh, I've had that problem myself before. Good tip. I need to write this down so I don't forget the next time it happens to me.
